Who's ALICE?

This letter was submitted by a local mom who was impacted by Family Center's United Way funded program.

This class has meant more to me than I could possibly express in words. I am currently in the middle of a pretty nasty divorce with three beautiful children in the mix.

Linda has fond childhood memories from when she was a “Little” in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Several years ago, she reconnected with her former Big Sister, Shirley, and now they have regular lunches and get-togethers. Remembering how much Shirley helped her, Linda decided to pay it forward and become a Big Sister herself.

Our first child, Lucas was born happy and healthy, weighing in at 9lbs 3oz. There was nothing of concern from the doctors’ perspectives, so we began our new life as a happy family of three.

School was already hard for 10-year old Ren. In the classroom, she struggled with math. Outside of it, she struggled with bullying. When her parents moved her to a new school in Hartford, they were concerned that things could get worse.
