2015 CAMPAIGN OFF TO STRONG START

68,000 MEALS PACKAGED DURING KICKOFF

United Way of Washington County’s annual fundraising campaign officially kicked off on September 24. They celebrated the occasion with their United Against Hunger event at Washington County Fair Park.

More than 500 community volunteers—including families, individuals, and company teams—united to package more than 68,000 meals for distribution to six local food pantries. See event photos. United Way’s strategic partner, the Volunteer Center of Washington County, helped coordinate the event and West Bend Mutual Insurance Company was a sponsor.

“Tom and I were really impressive to see all these people coming together for such a great cause,” said Pat Strachota, 2015 United Way campaign co-chair. “This is what community is all about.”

In addition to the packaged meals, United Way collected 18 cases of canned goods to stock local pantry shelves. The event highlighted the three ways the community can give back through United Way: giving, advocating, and volunteering.

“The United Way campaign brings people together to make a greater impact than any of us could individually,” said Kristin Brandner, executive director of United Way of Washington County. “We fund programs that empower people to improve their lives through Education, Income Stability, and Health. This year, we are focused on increasing awareness and participation so we can serve more people in Washington County.”

Seventeen local companies have already started their workplace campaigns for United Way. Early Pacesetter reports show strong increases in participation. R&R Insurance Services has already increased more than 14% over last year’s campaign, thanks in part to a successful silent auction and other workplace incentives. Robert W. Baird employees have increased by 18%, and Maysteel employees have donated 30% more than last year. Friends of Abused Families has had an incredible campaign, with 91% growth over last year. This United Way agency partner is truly living united.
