IMPACT AREAS
 
United Way of Washington County supports programs in five Community Impact Areas to measurably improve the quality of life for residents Washington County.  Community Impact volunteers help guide the United Way's planning, priority setting and fund distribution process to design community solutions and collaborations.   The chart below shows how donor dollars are allocated for each Impact Area in 2008. Below the chart are descriptions of each Impact Area.

 

  COMMUNITY IMPACT AREA OUTCOMES 

SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN CRISIS 

Programs that provide food, shelter, resource needs and support to people during a crisis or disaster

  • People in crisis have their food, shelter and resource needs met
  • Individuals and families deal with a crisis effectively
  • Victims of disaster have their basic needs met

 

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES 

Programs that provide families information, support, and counseling

  • Adults have the knowledge and skills to make good decisions
  • Individuals, couples and families have healthy relationships and coping skills
  • Parents/caregivers receive support when faced with challenges

 

DEVELOPING SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN & YOUTH 

Programs that build developmental assets and provide services to children and youth

  • Young people make responsible choices
  • Young people develop the relationships and skills needed to succeed
  • Young people become confident, competent, caring and contributing citizens
  • Children spend their time in safe places with supportive people

 

BUILDING STRONG & HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

Programs to promote good health and volunteerism

  • People have the information to live healthy lives
  • Communities have opportunities that will maintain and improve good health and well-being of citizens
  • Volunteers are encouraged, supported, and connected to opportunities that address community needs

 

PROMOTING SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Programs that enable all people to be as self-sufficient as possible and participate in the community

  • People have the resources they need to function and thrive in the community
  • Older persons and individuals with disabilities live with dignity and remain active, independent and self-sufficient as possible
  • All people have access to social and recreational opportunities
